Haskin and Johnson to play Riverview on Sept. 20

On Saturday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m., eclectic music duo Steve Haskin and Julie Johnson will perform in concert at the Riverview Café, 3753 42nd Ave. S. With Haskin on guitar and Johnson on flute, the pair specializes in distinct and forward-looking sounds influenced by many genres ranging from jazz, classical, and blues.
Johnson has studied and played a wide range of musical styles all over the world and is the winner of a 2008 Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. She teaches at the West Bank School of Music, whose executive director, David Alderson, is also involved with Zephyr Acoustic Productions, which sponsors this and other concert events.

Haskin, a guitarist and painter who lives in Longfellow, traces his musical roots back to 1979 and the West Bank’s famous Coffeehouse Extemporé and later, the New Riverside Café. Since then, he has recorded a number of albums and received awards for his work.

The duo has a program planned of bossa novas, tangos, French musettes and classic American jazz. Tickets cost $13 in advance or $15 at the door and may be purchased by calling 612-722-7234 or visiting the Riverview’s website.
