Hennepin County to hold public hearing on Central Corridor LRT

Hennepin County will hold a public hearing for residents and businesses to comment on the preliminary design plans for the Central Corridor light-rail transit (LRT) project on June 17, 1:30 p.m., at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 S. Sixth St., Room A-2400.

Preceding the official hearing, Central Corridor staff will hold an open house at 12:30 p.m. in Room A-2350, where members of the public may view and obtain copies of the preliminary design plans and ask questions about the project.

According to Minnesota law, cities, counties and regional rail authorities must hold public comment hearings on state construction projects that have a direct effect on their residents. THe City of Minneapolis held a similar hearing on June 3.

The hearings deal with elements of the preliminary design plans only — things like general dimensions, locations of the light-rail alignment and stations, and access for commuters with disabilities. Aesthetic considerations, such as public art, station design and streetscapes, are not part of the focus at these hearings.
