City to answer tax assessment questions, April 8–9
When Minneapolis homeowners received their projected tax assessments for 2009 recently, some saw the amount fall as much as 20–25 percent.
For those with questions about their property taxes, the City of Minneapolis is holding two open houses, on Tuesday, April 8, 4:30–7 p.m. at North Regional Library, 1315 Lowry Ave. N; and Wednesday, April 9, 4:30–7 p.m. at Pearl Park Neighborhood Center, 414 E. Diamond Lake Road.
City Tax Assessor’s staff, including residential and commercial appraisers, will explain the basic terms and concepts, give an overview of the property tax system and the limited market value program, explain how taxes are assessed on your property, and give information about property tax relief programs, the homestead credit, market value, lead abatement rebates and the senior citizens property tax deferral, among other topics.
Light refreshments will be served.
